Musubibito

Orchid with original spice curry made with yuzu and local dishes made by local mothers
We have prepared a retreat time that warms both mind and body, such as a hand bath experience with yuzu fragrance.

What is Musubibito?

Considering urban areas and tourist centers around Japan as "Omoya" and beautiful areas that are not yet known as "Hanare", "Mercure Wakayama Kushimoto Resort & Spa" is a hotel located in an area that can be said to be "Hanare". "#Hanare Journey" is a sil of a trip where you can enjoy the scenery rich in nature, the traditions and culture rooted in the area, and contact with local people. One way to enjoy this #Hanare Journey is the original experience program "Musubibito". In this program, people who are familiar with the region and continue to preserve tradition and culture are referred to as "Musubibito" and play a role in connecting customers with their communities. In Grand Mercure in Japan, programs have been developed at hotels such as the source hunter in Beppu Bay, the salt craftsman in Awajishima, the Kumano Kodo Guide in Minabe Wakayama, and the charcoal craftsman in Tosa Kochi in Mercure.

-Retreat trip that warms the mind and body in the Hirai district of Kozagawa-cho with a population of 73 ~

Kozagawa-cho is a place rich in nature, with 96% of the land being forested. At the end of the mountainous area, there is the Hirai district, called Yuzu no Sato, with a population of only 73 (*).
In the past, Hirai Village was a region that flourished in forestry. With the decline of forestry after the war, people will start cultivating yuzu, which is indispensable to Kii's specialty "saury sushi", as a new job.
Various natural conditions, such as the location surrounded by mountains, the clear streams that spring up, and the temperature difference in morning and evening, grow fresh and fragrant yuzu.

Point of the program

1. Warm your body with a hand bath of Yuzu and Yomogi

This program starts with an experience of warming the body with a hand bath using yuzu and yomogi while drinking yuzu tea and resting.
(You can choose either a hand bath or a foot bath.) Dry fresh wormwood grown in this area and soak it in warm hot water boiled in a wood stove to the wrist to promote blood circulation throughout the body, improve cold and relax. In addition, we will add essential oil made from local yuzu and Shioya no Teshio, which is cooked only with firewood, making use of the blessings of Kuroshio.
Yuzu is rich in aromatic ingredients such as limonene and α-pinene, and is said to have antibacterial, anti-inflammation, and blood circulation promotion. With the power of wormwood, yuzu and salt, it warms the cold body from the core (*). While relaxing in a refreshing citrus and wormwood scented space, you can enjoy conversations with Mr. Kuraoka and local people, and spend a relaxing time.
Mr. Kuraoka will explain the history of the Hirai district, a rare yuzu production area in Honshu, the characteristics of yuzu grown in areas blessed with the clear stream of the mountains and the Koza River, and cultivation and processing methods in an easy-to-understand manner. In addition to tasting, you can also learn more about the good work of Yuzu on the body.
