Recommended cycling course

①Kushimoto Ohashi & Hashihagiiwa 17km/110m (reference time: 2 hours) For beginners and bicycle rentals

You can easily enjoy cycling around Kushimoto-cho from the hotel. As soon as you leave the hotel, you will start going down to the sea, so if you are a rental bike that you are not familiar with yet, run slowly with the brakes on the front and rear. While avoiding National Route 42, pass through the city area of Kushimoto, and the loop bridge goes to the famous Kushimoto Ohashi. After going back and forth on a dynamic bridge that runs over the blue sea, if you have enough physical strength and time, we recommend that you go round the route around the Shiomisaki Peninsula, aiming for the southernmost tip of Honshu. After looking at the bridge pile rock, the last hill climb is waiting to the hotel.

②Kushimoto Ohashi & Kashinosaki Lighthouse & Shiomisaki 37km/560m (reference time: 4 hours) For beginners and bicycle rentals

A challenging course that aims at the tip of Kii Oshima and Shiomisaki by utilizing the mobility of rental bikes with electric assist. Intermittent ups and downs continue after crossing the Kushimoto Bridge of the Loop Bridge, but I want to proceed steadily with the power of electricity without overdoing it. On the way, it is also recommended to take a break at the bread and cafe nagi. After passing the Turkish Memorial Hall, which was built after the rescue of the Eltto Lulu, which grounded in 1890, it is Kashinozaki Lighthouse. The scenic beauty seen from the Pacific Ocean seen from Japan's oldest stone lighthouse and from the nearby sea Kongo is unique to Kushimoto. Cross the Kushimoto Bridge and return to Honshu, turn left. From there, you will see the Shiomisaki tour road. The monument at the southernmost tip of Honshu (the lawn in the foreground is not allowed to ride a bicycle) and the TSUBAKI COFFEE AND MORE (Tsubaki Coffee and More) under the tourist tower are also popular spots.

③Silicon & waterfall worship & insect rock 58km / 700m (reference time: 4 hours) For intermediate and road bikes

Once out of the hotel, go to the coastline, run on Route 42 for a while, then turn right. We cross one pass toward the monolith of the Koza River. After watching the magnificent megaliths with a height of 100m and a width of 500m, the course goes east along the clear stream Koza River. I also want to stop by the Diving Bridge in Myojin, which is about 21 km. It is recommended that you go north and go to the waterfall worship, but please consult with your physical strength and time for the 18km round trip. Stop by the insect rock in Takaike formed by erosion due to weathering, run again along the coastline, and finally head to Hashihagi Rock. Drive with special attention on traffic on national roads. In addition, there is a roadside station for monolith, waterfall worship, and insect rock.

④Nachi Falls & Kii Katsuura & Taiji Peninsula 122km/1400m (reference time: 8 hours) For advanced riders and road bikes

Take advantage of the driving performance of road bikes for sightseeing in Kumano. In the first half, run while looking at the clear stream Koza River, and go to Nachi Katsuura with the diving bridge of Myojin and the insect rock of Takaike. After passing near Japan's first small rocket launch site, Spaceport Kii, we will proceed inland. Long hill climbs continue from Iro Kawachi Ward to Nachi Kogen, so be careful not to supply out. After that, a dynamic downhill from 560m above sea level to almost the coastline. We recommend that you stop by Kumano Nachi Taisha Shrine, Nachi Falls, and O Kadosaka on the way. Speaking of Nachi Katsuura, it's a tuna, so be sure to have lunch at Katsuura Fishing Port's lively market and seafood restaurants in the shopping district. Go around the Taiji Peninsula (including the standard course of Tour de Kumano) where the whale museum and the Hiramidai observatory are located, and drive south along National Route 42 along the coast to see Hashihagiiwa and a hotel on a hill. You can see.

⑤Rafa Prestige Kumano 2023 153km/3600m (reference time: 12 hours) For advanced riders and road bikes

This is a course of Rafa Prestige Kumano held in September 2023. The course that passes through Kushimoto-cho, Kozagawa-cho, Nachi-cho, and Taiji-cho, where 49 teams ran, has plenty of climbing volume. The unreplenished zone continues in the middle, so please carry plenty of supplementary meals and water. The road surface is rough and there are many rockfalls, so puncture measures such as carrying spare tubes and preparing sturdy tires are also firm. It runs in areas with low traffic, but at the same time, there are also long forest roads where mobile radio waves do not reach, so avoid taking on challenges in single Germany. Especially the down section is safe. Since climbing with a slope also appears, you should feel more tough than the number obtained at an altitude of 3,600m. Please enjoy the course packed with the charm of Kumano.
